I understand charging yearly maintenance fees if I want updates but if I just want to use what I already have I shouldn't have to pay continually for it.

Give me a reasonable, one time purchase option and I have no problem paying for quality software but I'm sick of everything going to a subscription model and holding us hostage for features.
